His instrument is ancient. His music is cutting edge. Joe Venegoni plays the dulcimer like no one else around. “To anyone who is a fan of Bela Fleck, Chick Corea, or Pat Metheny, Venegoni's work is a must,” says the Village Voice. According to the Chicago Reader, “Venegoni has taken the dulcimer into the realm of fusion, and has extended its harmonic possibilities in a manner no less revolutionary than Hendrix did with the guitar.”

Joe honed his skills on mountain dulcimer and hammer dulcimer playing traditional tunes from the rustic hill country of Missouri and Arkansas, many of which he learned from musicologist and archivist Max Hunter, who traveled through the backwoods of the Ozarks for several decades, tape recorder in hand. Firmly rooted in Celtic and Appalachian traditions, Joe began to explore world music and added strutting Caribbean street dances and swaying Brazilian sambas to his rollicking Appalachian reels. The result is urgent, percussive, and lilting – music that moves across borders in effortless flight.

Joining Joe on stage will be virtuoso guitarist Tom Lattanand. Born in Thailand, raised in the States, based in the Bay Area for the past fifteen years, Tom melds his early passion for heavy metal and classic rock with classical training in piano, guitar, and composition. He plays with a mix of a finger style technique and percussive rhythms on a steel-string acoustic to make music rich in melody and texture. His 2011 release, Stone Seat View, is haunting and lovely.
