Jody Stecher has been making beautiful music for many decades now, and he finally decided to record an album of his own originals, bringing together a splendid crew of musicians, all of whom will be joining him tonight at the Freight, with Paul Knight on bass, Eric Thompson on guitar, Chad Manning on fiddle, Bill Evans on banjo, Kate Brislin and Allegra Thompson on vocals, Keith Little on vocals and banjo, Suzie Thompson on vocals, fiddle, and accordion, and Jody on vocals, banjo, guitar, and mandolin. “I got brave enough to do this project,” Jody says, “when, after hearing my songs, folks stopped asking me, ‘Did you write that?’ and started asking, “Where did you learn that?” His songs have that well-worn quality of having always been around, and having always been comfortable.

Jody was born in Brooklyn at the beginning of the first wave of the baby boom and was soon playing bluegrass and blues, Cajun and traditional folk. He went on to study Hindustani classical music with Ali Akbar Khan and Zia Mohiuddin Dagar. He’s recorded more than a dozen albums, including seven with his wife Kate, two of which received Grammy nominations for Best Traditional Folk Album. This new album, Wonders and Signs, is indeed wonderful, and every song has a great story that you just might get to hear tonight at the show
