Jim MalcolmScotland’s Jim Malcolm plays guitar and harmonica and sings traditional Scottish classics, contemporary favorites, and his own pointed and poignant originals. The Independent calls him “one of the finest talents to have emerged through the Scottish folk scene in years,” and the Boston Globe describes his voice as having “the complex individuality of an aged single-malt whisky.” The Scots Trad Music Awards voted him Songwriter of the Year in 2004 and nominated him three times for Singer of the Year.

Jim is a troubadour at heart. He’s worked as a professional musician ever since graduating from Edinburgh University. Performing solo and in various bands and combos, he played gigs in pubs, hotels, and clubs in almost every town and isle from Berwick to Benbecula and from Stranraer to Lerwick. From Scotland, it was on to solo tours through England, Ireland, Denmark, Germany, and even Uganda. In 1999, he joined the already popular Celtic folk-rock band Old Blind Dogs and made it to America. He’s released 11 solo albums, including his latest, Disaster for Scotland, which collects 14 of his humorous and satirical songs. Oh, and let’s not forget his DVD, Bard Hair Day, celebrating the 250th birthday of Robert Burns. Jim’s shows are always highly entertaining, spiced with funny stories and astute observations, in the great tradition of Scottish artists through the ages.
