Jayme StoneJayme Stone is a Candian banjo player, composer, and instigator who makes sublime music inspired by jazz, folk, chamber music, world music, and the banjo’s African roots. The Globe and Mail calls him “the Yo-Yo Ma of the banjo,” No Depression says that his “banjo playing is a source of limitless creative expression,” and Songlines describes his music as “what the future of the banjo sounds like.”

His first album, The Utmost, won Canada’s Juno Award for Instrumental Album of the Year in 2008. His second album, Africa to Appalachia, a collaboration with griot singer Mansa Sissoko, whom he met during his travels in Mali, won the Juno Award for Best World Music Album of 2009. His third album, Room of Wonders, with music from Norway, Sweden, Bulgaria, Brazil, Italy, and North America, won a Canadian Folk Music Award for Instrumental Artist of the Year in 2011. His new album, The Other Side of the Air, hasn’t won any awards yet, but give it a little time. Downbeat calls it a “fantastic new album, carrying the banjo far from the bluegrass context.” According to the Toronto Star, “this music sounds like nothing else on earth.” Imaginative, creative, strikingly original, Jayme Stone takes the banjo to new heights, depths, and exotic locales in between – and all of it is well worth your time!
