A true living treasure of country-folk music, Iris Dement enthralls audiences with the lyrical beauty of her songcraft and the unflinching intimacy of her performances. Iris' voice is instantly recognizable, with a spare, timeless quality that echoes her native Arkansas hills, complementing the unaffected, honest wisdom of her songs about family, forgiveness, and other real-life mysteries.

Iris was born in rural Paragould, Arkansas, the youngest of 14 children. Her devoutly religious family later moved to California, where Iris grew up singing gospel music. She first began composing songs at the age of 25, and made her recording debut in the early 1990s with the acclaimed album Infamous Angel. Her second release won a Grammy nomination for Best Contemporary Folk Album, and her duo work with John Prine on In Spite of Ourselves won her another Grammy nod. Iris has collaborated with numerous other artists, including Steve Earle and Emmylou Harris, and is a frequent guest on Garrison Keillor's A Prairie Home Companion radio show. She also appeared in the movie Songcatcher, playing the character Rose Gentry and singing on the soundtrack.

Iris' solo work has ranged from introspective, deeply personal story-songs to a more rock-influenced sound and fiercely political subject matter, but her most recent CD, Lifeline, is a collection of traditional gospel songs she remembers from her childhood. Tonight's show is sure to offer gems that span her career, along with some brand new offerings. Don't miss the chance to see this remarkable performer live!
