From tundra to tropics, people snap, clap, step, and sing artful music. Body music ignites audiences with music you can see, dance you can hear – it’s the oldest music on the planet, and it's brand new. The International Body Music Festival, founded in 2008, is the only gathering of its kind, featuring traditional and contemporary Body Music artists from across the globe. Dancer, educator and body percussionist extraordinaire Keith Terry serves as Artistic Director. The Village Voice says that Keith “lifts you to a philosophical plane of exquisite lucidity usually only reached by means of controlled substances.” Every other year the festival travels overseas – to Brazil, Turkey, Indonesia, Italy, and, next year, Paris – but this year it’s right here in the Bay Area, and not to be missed!

Molodi is a stepping and hip hop quintet based in Las Vegas. They’ll be doing two days of in-school programs in Oakland and Berkeley, as well as workshops. http://www.molodilive.com

Corposonic Trio features Bryan Dyer, Steve Hogan, and Keith Terry performing bass vocal, beat box, and body music. http://crosspulse.com/corposonic.html

The Dynamic Miss Faye Carol and the inimitable vocalist Jenna Mammina will perform with backing from the Corposonic Trio. https://www.facebook.com/jenna.mammina?fref=ts

The always enchanting Cascada de Flores, featuring Arwen Lawrence and Jorge Liceada, will present Mexican zapateado. http://www.cascadadeflores.com

Evie Ladin’s MoToR/dance will show you what it’s like to experience a moving choir.

The different styles of body music from around the world reveal other times and other cultures – they hold memories, cultural legacies, wisdom in rhythm, embodied in the body, internal, external, eternal. Body music is incredibly fun to watch, hear, and create for yourself. It’s art for all ages, good for the mind, the body, and the spirit!
