The Hawaiian Legacy Tour blows in to the Freight tonight, gathering the vibrant younger generation of Hawaiian music masters together on our stage. Grammy award winner Keoki Kahumoku, Herb Ohta, Jr. and Patrick Landeza bring the knowledge and styles of their teachers to the forefront as they highlight their unique slant on traditional ‘ukulele and Hawaiian slack key guitar.

A soulful, strongly atmospheric guitarist and a wonderfully expressive singer, Keoki Kahumoku grew up on the Big Island of Hawai'i surrounded by music in the home of his father, George Kahumoku, Jr., from whom he learned the traditional "slack key" style, a fingerpicking technique where the guitar strings are loosened, producing a unique lingering, resonant sound. Keoki is the only five-time Hawaiian music Grammy award winner.

Herb Ohta, Jr., son of the legendary 'ukulele virtuoso Herb "Ohta-San" Ohta, learned his first tune on the 'ukulele at the tender age of three, and he hasn't slowed down since then. Considered to be one of today's most prolific ‘ukulele masters, Herb is influenced by jazz, R&B, Latin, and Brazilian music, putting his stamp on Hawaiian music by pushing the limits of tone and technique on this beautiful instrument.

A master teacher of slack key guitar, as well as a sought-after performer and respected composer, Patrick Kahakauwila Kamaholelani Landeza began his musical journey on the island of Berkeley, Calif., where his Hawai'i-born parents helped preserve the culture within the Native Hawaiian community. Now 37, Patrick remains mindful of the lessons he learned as a teen from his renowned mentors: Raymond Kane, George Kuo, Dennis Kamakahi and Sonny Chillingworth.
