The balmy sounds of aloha melt the winter chill when award winning Hawaiian slack key guitarist Patrick Landeza hosts the Hawaiian Holiday Show featuring Award Winning musicians Kupaoa, Kawika Kahiapo, Ke`Ala Aumoe Dancers and a special visit from Hawaiian Santa himself!

Born and raised in Berkeley to Hawaii-born parents, Patrick Landeza studied slack key from masters like George Kuo, Ray Kane, and Sonny Chillingworth. The first musician based on the mainland to win the Na Hoku Hanohano Award for Slack Key Album of the Year, Patrick is not only one of the top slack key performers in the world, he’s also a musical bridge between Hawaii and California – he plays, in his words, “traditional Hawaiian music with a Berkeley twist.”

Kūpaoa combines the formidable talents of Līhau and Kellen Paik, who played their first gig at a friend’s wedding and have gone on to release four albums, including their debut album, Pili o Ke Ao, which won the Na Hoku Hanohano Award for Most Promising Artist of the Year in 2007, and their latest, Bumbye, which means “up ahead” – and there are great things up ahead for this duo and anyone who hears their gorgeous harmonies!

Kawika’s interest in music began at an early age, when, inspired by his father, he spent many hours practicing guitar alone. Some of his fondest memories are of their “garage” jam sessions, when “Pops” Gabby Pahinui would show up at their house to play at a party, thus further inspiring Kawika’s passion for ki-ho`alu, Slack Key guitar. At age 17, Kawika entered the professional music scene and has since contributed to more than 30 recording projects and performed with numerous artists both on stage and as a studio musician.

Ke ‘Ala Aumoe features several amazing hula dancers, including Frank Ka‘ananā Akima, Christine Puni Badis, Reid Del Rosario, Eleena Helenihi, and Pōhaikauʻilani Nuʻuhiwa.
