Noted Bay Area cellist Hannah Addario-Berry celebrates the centenary of Kodaly’s iconic Cello Sonata with a program that includes several exciting commissioned works. Scortadura is a musical term: the deliberate retuning of the cello’s strings, which Kodaly uses to brilliant effect.

Passionate about bringing music to audiences in a wide array of mediums and venues, Hannah is a sought-after soloist, chamber musician, and teacher, as well as founder and artistic director of two popular Bay Area music series, Cello Bazaar and Locaphonic. She has performed with Zoco Ensemble, Magik*Magik Orchestra. As a member of Del Sol String Quartet she performed more than 50 world premieres, created large-scale collaboratuibs such as GARDEN, Stringwreck, Divide Light, and Ghost Opera, and recorded two highly acclaimed albums, Ring of Fire—Music from the Pacific Rim and First Life—String Quartets of Marc Blitzstein.

Classical at the Freight brings in some of the Bay Area’s best classical musicians for an hour of outstanding chamber music in an informal, friendly atmosphere. San Francisco Chamber Orchestra music director Ben Simon hosts. There’s no stuffiness, no mystification, just an invigorating evening with gifted musicians sharing the beauty and joy of this timeless art with new audiences of all ages.
