Haas Kowert TiceTake three masterful young musicians from Crooked Still, Punch Brothers, and the thriving Boston music scene, put them together in Brooklyn, and let the magic happen! These three musical marvels – Brittany Haas on violin, Paul Kowert on bass, and Jordan Tice on guitar – have collaborated on a new album, You Got This, which Bluegrass Today calls “beautiful and haunting, drawing on the traditions of American fiddle music while challenging those boundaries at the same time.” The group’s impeccable instrumentals sizzle and soar, exploring traditional forms and experimenting with new possibilities.

The three met in their early 20s at various music festivals and camps when Brittany was at Princeton, Paul was at Curtis, and Jordan was at Towson. After graduation, Brittany joined Crooked Still, Paul joined Punch Brothers, and Jordan started playing with artists like Tony Trischka, Casey Driessen, and Noam Pikelny. They kept in touch and played on some of each other’s projects, and finally decided to record their own album. “We got together,” Paul says, “because we wanted a project in which we could explore our ideas – we wanted to see what we could find. We each contributed writing, and were each able to tinker with each other’s ideas. I think in this album you hear discovery.” Edgar Meyer calls the group “a wonderful union of three very talented people.” The thread that ties them together is a driving passion to share great music with friends. That sharing continues tonight at the Freight!
