Pianist and composer George Winston graces our stage for two evenings
of solo piano artistry, complementing his sold-out winter show at the
Freight last January. George will play pieces reflecting his diverse
passions, including selections from his well known recordings in the
melodic folk piano style, New Orleans R&B, and the work of famed
pianist Vince Guaraldi.
George grew up mainly in Montana, spending
later formative years in Mississippi and Florida listening to
instrumental rock (especially the Doors) and instrumental R&B.
George began playing organ in 1967, before switching to acoustic piano
in 1971. He is well known both for his melodic, evocative instrumental
music and for his forays into the New Orleans R&B music of
luminaries like Henry Butler, James Booker, Dr. John, and Professor
Longhair.
His next release will be Gulf Coast Blues & Impressions-A Relief Benefit 2. Please join us in support of a local food bank by bringing a donation of canned food to the concert tonight.
