Contemporary pianist and composer George Winston graces our stage for an evening of solo piano artistry. He will play pieces from his recordings in his melodic folk piano style, some New Orleans R&B, and some songs from his latest CD, Love Will Come: The Music of Vince Guaraldi, Vol. 2, the follow-up to his 1996 recording Linus and Lucy- The Music of Vince Guaraldi. Vince Guaraldi (1928-1976) was a pianist and composer beloved by generations for the compositions he recorded for the first 16 of the Charlie Brown television specials, and for his standard from 1962 "Cast Your Fate to the Wind".

George Winston grew up mainly in Montana, and also spent his later formative years in Mississippi and Florida. During this time, his favorite music was instrumental rock and instrumental R&B. Inspired by R&B, jazz, blues, and rock (especially the Doors), George began playing organ in 1967, before switching to acoustic piano in 1971. He is well known both for his melodic, evocative instrumental music and for his forays into the New Orleans R&B music of luminaries like Henry Butler, James Booker, Dr. John, and Professor Longhair.

His next release will be Gulf Coast Blues & Impressions - A Relief Benefit 2. Please join us in support of a local food bank by bringing a donation of canned food to the concert tonight.
