Got the December blues? Well, here's the cure! Master of American home-grown music Geoff Muldaur assembles an all-star string band on our stage tonight to romp and stomp their way through blues, jug band, Western swing and hillbilly music of the 1920s and '30s, including special guest, Jim Kweskin.

The Texas Shieks include a whole passel of American roots music virtouosi: Grammy-winning Dobro player Cindy Cashdollar (Bob Dylan, Van Morrison, Asleep at the Wheel), multi-instrumentalist and singer Johnny Nicholas (Big Walter Horton, Johnny Shines), bassist Bruce Hughes (Poi Dog Pondering, Jason Mraz), and fiddle whiz Suzy Thompson, with Jim guesting on vocals and guitar. Spotlighting numbers from their CD of the same name, Geoff and friends perform toe-tapping pieces of classic blues, string band, Texas swing, and jump blues like "Blues In The Bottle", "Don't Sell It, Don't Give It Away", and "Fan It" with masterful expertise, great authority, and captivating joy.

As a founding member and lead singer of two seminal groups, The Jim Kweskin Jug Band and Paul Butterfield's Better Days, Geoff earned a place in American musical history. Wrapping his polished guitar playing and riveting, otherworldly voice around unusually crafted interpretations of classic American material as well as his own unique compositions, Goeff continues to perform, and is a frequent guest on Garrison Keillor's radio program A Prairie Home Companion.

The Jim Kweskin Jug Band parlayed their good-time music at venues from Cambridge coffee houses to the Newport Folk Festival to the psychedelic ballrooms of San Francisco, where they shared billing with the likes of Big Brother and the Holding Company and the Doors. Jim led the band on guitar and vocals, shaping its good-humored mix of old-time folk, jazz, blues, and 1920s and '30s "whoopie music".

The Texas Sheiks isn't an ongoing touring act, so tonight's performance is definitely a special event!
