Danny CarnahanDanny Carnahan, of Wake the Dead fame, hosts our annual Freight Holiday Revue, featuring Euphonia, Evie Ladin & Keith Terry, Evo Bluestein, Koyote Patrick Polk, and Bharathi Palivela.

Danny not only sings and plays guitar, fiddle, and octave mandolin in Wake the Dead, the world’s first Celtic all-star Grateful Dead jam band, he also finds time to write for Acoustic Guitar Magazine and Mandolin Magazine, and has even published a few mystery novels. As half of the ground-breaking duo Caswell Carnahan, he helped pave the way for the California Celtic explosion of the early 1980s, and later toured with Robin Petrie for more than a decade, building a following from Europe to New Zealand, recording seven albums, and earning a Grammy nomination.

Euphonia is a café-style acoustic combo featuring soaring harmony vocals and sophisticated musicianship on songs from Stephen Foster to Gillian Welch. Sylvia Herold sings and plays guitar, Paul Kotapish sings and plays mandolin, Charlie Hancock plays accordion, Chuck Ervin plays bass, and Brian Rice provides percussion.

Evie Ladin, of the Stairwell Sisters and the Evie Ladin Band, joins forces with Keith Terry, dancer, educator, and body percussionist extraordinaire. No Depression called Evie’s voice “a revelation.” The Village Voice said that Keith “lifts you to a philosophical plane of exquisite lucidity usually only reached by means of controlled substances.” Together, Evie and Keith put on an unusually creative and surprising live show, covering traditional, contemporary, and original material with vivacity and verve.

Evo Bluestein, a member of the Autoharp Hall of Fame and also an accomplished performer on fiddle, button accordion, guitar, and banjo, plays American roots music – Appalachian, Cajun, zydeco, and blues.

Oakland’s own Koyote Patrick Polk dives deep into the Delta blues, with soulful vocals and hard-driving slide guitar on timeless classics and heartfelt originals.

Bharathi Palivela of the Berklee School of Music performs with her trio. She’ll be back on the Freight stage in January as part of the show UnderCover Presents - Joni Mitchell’s Blue.
