Frenk FairfieldA young Californian who sings and plays as someone who's
crawled out of the Virginia mountains carrying familiar songs that in his hands sound forgotten . . . ."
—Greil Marcus

With his Brylcreem-parted hair, high-waisted pants, and spellbinding voice full of existential anguish, Frank Fairfield looks and sounds straight from the Appalachian mountains of another era, rather than a 25 year old from California's central valley. He has come a long way since being discovered busking in the streets of Los Angeles with his fiddle and banjo. Since then he signed to New York Folk label Tompkins Square, garnered national attention opening for Fleet Foxes on their 2008 tour, and performed with such acts as Charlie Louvin, Pokey Lafarge, Charlie Parr, and Blind Boy Paxton.

Just back from a European tour, Frank has released his second album on Tompkins Square Records Out On The Open West, featuring originals and support from musicians including Willie Watson (Old Crow Medicine Show). Reviewer Grayson Curren says of this release, "He plays with a rare integrity, offering up his life in a way that does exactly what folk music must do-it relates the world as the singer sees it, mixing sadness with sweetness, excitement with low-down and miserable depression."

Don't miss this chance for a dose of this up and coming talent's inexorably authentic music.
