Tonight's double bill blows the dust off old tunes and songs from the golden era of early country, hillbilly, and blues music.
Evil Diane's fluid expressiveness in traditional Appalachian arts incorporates an urban edge and contemporary vision. The quartet features the polyrhythmic heat and funk of Evie Ladin's clawhammer banjo and resonant voice, with Keith Terry (bass), Dina Maccabee (fiddle and voice) and Erik Pearson (guitar and banjo). Evie's other projects include performing with the Stairwell Sisters, and Keith Terry & Crosspulse, and teaching banjo and singing at the Freight.
Old Sledge, from the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia, brings creative arrangements and dynamic performances to a repertoire spanning the gamut of old time country and blues music. Chance McCoy (fiddle, banjo, guitar vocals) and Sabra Guzmán (guitar, banjo ukulele, upright bass, vocals) have won both the West Virginia Fiddle and Banjo championships, first place at the Appalachian String Band Festival, and played at Carnegie Hall.
