Beso brings together a love for traditional gypsy jazz and a passion for rock. The result of this musical kiss is gypsy rock – darker, faster, more danceable, more bluesy, more gypsy. With Adam Roach on guitar and vocals, Graham Patzner on fiddle, Matt Montomery on fiddle, guitar, and accordion, Cheyenne Young on bass, and Ethan Turner on drums, Beso has a modern sensibility and a musical sensitivity that transforms the traditional into something exciting and new.

George Cole Quintet

Esprit de Django et Stéphane Festival creator George Cole is back! Guitar Player Magazine has praised his “excellent Django-style guitar work,” and he was guitar instructor to Billie Joe Armstrong and Mike Dirnt of Green Day. He has recorded for Chris Isaak, toured with Joe Walsh of The Eagles, and played guitar and sang duets with Keely Smith. He was guitarist in Beatnik Beatch, Big Blue Hearts, The Upstarts, and Young Country, and currently plays lead guitar for the David Grisman Sextet. George has recorded four solo albums including his latest, George Cole LIVE. Joining him tonight are two-time Grammy winner Mads Tolling on violin, Spanish gypsy guitarist Javier Jimenez, vocalist Emily Day, and Kaeli Earle on upright bass and vocals.

Mr. Sun

Mr. Sun brings together three generations of American string band stalwarts, the legendary fiddler Darol Anger, mandolin marvel Joe Walsh, superb guitarist Grant Gordy, and bass ace Ethan Jodziewicz. Darol has founded or co-founded the David Grisman Quintet, the Turtle Island String Quartet, Psychograss, Montreux, and the Republic of Strings. Joe spent four years as a member of the Gibson Brothers, Grant has played in the David Grisman Quintet, and Ethan is currently studying with Edgar Meyer. These four consummate musicians have just released their first album together, The People Need Light.

Vaud & the Villains

Vaud & the Villains, a spirited 19-piece 1930s New Orleans Orchestra, swaggers into the Freight with a cabaret show featuring parlor songs, spirituals, Mardi Gras classics, and Motown. Think of it as the Big Easy meets the Moulin Rouge, with a little film noir. The orchestra has released two albums, Sin and Tonic, Vol. 1 in 2011 and Sin and Tonic, Vol. 2 in 2013, which include traditionals like “O Mary Don’t You Weep” and “St. James Infirmary Blues” – but you never know when they’ll segue into a song like the Jackson Five’s “I Want You Back.” Live it up with Vaud & the Villains, and enjoy an evening of bold sounds and bright melodies, with plenty of pageantry, revelry, and glorious entertainment!
