The DuhksThe Duhks are a Canadian folk band from Winnipeg, Manitoba. They’ve recorded four studio albums and two live albums, receiving a Grammy nomination for Best Country Performance by a Duo or Group and winning a Juno award, the Canadian equivalent of the Grammy, for Best Roots and Traditional Album. The website Slant calls them “one of the most compelling acts on the roots scene” with “a unique style that places them at the frontlines of modern acoustic music.”

The current incarnation of the band features founder Leonard Podolak on banjo and vocals, Jessee Havey on lead vocals, Tania Elizabeth on fiddle and backup vocals, and Kevin Garcia and Andy Stack on percussion. “The band is a magnet for good songs,” says the website acousticmusic.com. They play “a sometimes high-energy blend of Appalachian old-time string band, Irish fiddle tunes, and kick-ass rock/folk fusion,” as well as “delicate finger-picked traditional instrumentals.” The band has worked with Bela Fleck and Tim O’Brien, but their sound is all their own, a rich mix of gorgeous vocals and brilliant instrumentals.
