Tonight's prescription for musical entertainment: let three great local bands regale your ears with unique yet rootsy sounds all their own!

San Francisco-born singer-songwriter Maurice Tani has been on the alt-country scene for a decade, following 15 years as the singer-guitarist with the seminal Motown-style party bands Zasu Pitts Memorial Orchestra and Big Bang Beat. Tonight's all-acoustic set of "hillbilly noir" gems taps Maurice's repertoire of wry humor and romantic rumination, with vocalist Jenn Courtney, acoustic bassist Mike Anderson, Steve Kallai (fiddle), Christopher Fisher (drums), and Randy Craig (piano).

An expressive singer who's equally at home on a whispery ballad and a full-tilt Buddy Holly-styled romp, Claudia Russell brings her Folk Unlimited Orchestra (Bruce Kaplan on guitar/mandolin/humor, bassist Mark Petrella, and Kit Eakle on fiddle) along for the ride. Claudia's originals put a unique spin on classic themes, mingling blues, western swing, country, pop, and rock influences.

Don't Look Back's acoustic string band music ranges from old time and Cajun to western swing and roots country originals, all with thoughtful arrangements spotlighting their sweet vocal harmonies and hot playing. The group features John Bidwell on dobro and lap steel guitars, Brian Bloom on guitar and mandolin, John Croizat on fiddle and guitar, and Dale Scott on string bass and bass guitar.
