From whimsical to ecstatic, romantic to ironic, shy to furious, Diaspora Redux is a musical dream journey through the hearts and minds of 21st century cosmopolitan musicians. Created and directed by Alan Bern of the world-renowned klezmer band Brave Old World, this brilliant septet encompasses musicians from New York, Berlin, and Buenos Aires, three of the world's greatest melting pots for contemporary jazz, klezmer, tango, and avant-garde music.

A brief description of the members of Diaspora Redux gives an idea of the wide-ranging virtuosity you'll find at this show! Hailing from Berlin, director Alan Bern (piano, accordion) is a composer, improviser, and a pioneer of New Jewish Music, as well as the director of Brave Old World and Yiddish Summer Weimar. Aaron Alexander is a New York-based drummer and composer who specializes in klezmer music, creative jazz, and contemporary improvisation, both solo and in groups like Boban Markovic' Orkestar and Hasidic New Wave. Berliner Paul Brody is a composer and trumpeter who has worked with a wide range of artists from Blixa Bargeld to Barry White to John Zorn. Russia-born New Yorker Alex Kontorovich (clarinet, sax), known for his exuberant "downtown klez-jazz," is a founding member of the award-winning Klez Dispensers. An accordionist/pianist from Buenos Aires, Cesar Lerner co- founded the internationally renowned Klezmer en Buenos Aires in 1995. Martin Lillich, a Berlin-based bassist, first hit the stage playing bass in a blues/rock band in the 1970's and since then never stopped dazzling audiences with his low-end rhythms. Argentinean clarinet/flute player Marcelo Moguilevsky is a highly respected instrumentalist and composer, and co-founded Klezmer en Buenos Aires.
