Della Mae is a Boston-born, Nashville-based band with a great new roots album featuring gorgeous lead vocals, glorious harmonies, and adroit instrumental work. “If there’s any real convergence between New England bluegrass, Nashville Americana and the Anglo thump of indie-folk, Della Mae stands planted at the crossroads,” says the New York Times. “This is modern roots music writ large,” says the website PopMatters. The Boston Globe calls the new album “smart and assured” and praises the band’s “masterful performances.” With Celia Woodsmith on guitar and lead vocals, Kimber Ludiker on fiddle, Jenni Lyn Gardner on mandolin, Courtney Hartman on guitar and banjo, and Zoe Guigueno on bass, the band blends elements of bluegrass, folk, and rock on compelling originals and the occasional well-chosen cover.

Kimber formed the band in 2009, their debut album, I Built This Heart, won an enthusiastic following, and their follow-up, This World Oft Can Be, earned a Grammy nomination in 2013 for Best Bluegrass Album. Last year, they served as cultural ambassadors in the U.S. State Department's American Music Abroad program, traveling to Pakistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Brazil, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates, playing concerts for local audiences as well as collaborating with local musicians and participating in children's music-education programs. The band takes its name from a line in the Osbourne Brothers song “Big Spike Hammer” – "Hey hey Della Mae, why do you treat me this way?" At the Freight tonight, Della Mae will treat you right!
