David Thom BandDavid Thom returns to the Freight with an all-star cast of musicians to play traditional bluegrass along with songs by Dylan, the Grateful Dead, and Van Morrison. David “has a finely-tuned sense of what he is going for in his music, limitless energy to pursue that goal, and great singing and playing chops besides,” says Laurie Lewis. He spent two years as guitarist and lead vocalist in the David Grisman Bluegrass Experience and recently released a wonderful duet album, New Territory, with Grammy winner Don Rigsby.

Don grew up in Elliot County, Kentucky, listening to early Ralph Stanley records and to the high lonesome sound of his cousin Ricky Skaggs. He emerged onto the national scene as a member of the Bluegrass Cardinals, played with JD Crowe and the New South, and was a member of the award-winning Lonesome River Band as well as the super-group Longview. David and Don will sing some of their delicious duets to open the show.

Grateful Bluegrass BoysThe Grateful Bluegrass Band came to life when David joined forces with fellow Sonoma resident Aaron Redner of Hot Buttered Rum, and they decided to combine their two musical passions: bluegrass and The Grateful Dead. Ben Jacobs of Poor Man’s Whiskey plays accordion, and Bryan Horne of Hot Buttered Rum plays bass. Tie-dye optional.
