The David Thom Band serves up its bluegrass with a tight, classic sound that never fails to tingle the spine and set the toes a-tappin. Fresh, invigorating, and breezy, the band's sound is true to the genre's soulful traditions while staying current with side trips into folk- and country-flavored americana. Tonight the band celebrates the release of their new CD, That Old Familiar, with an eclectic program of tender country ballads, invigorating originals, and songs from the likes of Dave Alvin and Kenny Rogers.

Led by guitarist and soulful singer, David Thom, the hard-driving quintet also features Andy Shaw's driving 5-string banjo, Jeff King's rock-solid upright bass, mandolin stalwart Brian Judd, and hot fiddler Paul Shelasky. Well-known to bluegrass fans in the Bay Area, the band has appeared at the Hardly Strictly Bluegrass Festival and the Strawberry Music Festival, and they got a rousing welcome at the Freight’s recent Holiday Revue show.
