Gracing our new stage for the first time, acclaimed New England singer-songwriter Dar Williams presents graceful, worldly songs that blend the integrity and emotional depths of folk music with pop-catchy melodies. Selections new and old are on the menu, including tunes from her latest CD, Promised Land (Razor & Tie), taking us along for the ride as she ranges through a vast idiosyncratic territory from relationships to the 1960s Milgram obedience experiment to what Dar calls "the high seas of parenthood."

Raised in Chappaqua, NY, Dar began studying guitar at age nine and wrote her first song at 11. She studied at Wesleyan University (during which time she spent a few months in Berkeley and performed at the Starry Plough), and eventually relocated to the thriving artistic community of Northampton, MA, where she began to make the rounds on the Northeast coffeehouse circuit. Through her superb performances, as well as releases like The Honesty Room and group projects like Cry, Cry, Cry (with Richard Shindell and Lucy Kaplansky), Dar quickly rose to become a major figure on the national singer-songwriter scene, engaging audiences with her lovely soprano vocals and elegant, insightful story-songs.

In Dar's own words, "I think my art is about trying to find the stories that make us feel connected. That's the verve of my life. It's what keeps things interesting."
