Crooked Still redefines traditional music with their startling—and mighty infectious—"low lonesome" sound. Drawing from bluegrass, old-time, and contemporary folk traditions, the Boston-based quintet puts out a killer combination of driving, earthy rhythms and spooky backwoods melodies, searing blues riffs and soaring vocals.

Bravura banjo player, Gregory Liszt (who toured as a member of Bruce Springsteen's Seeger Sessions Band in 2006) trades solos with youthful aces Tristan Clarridge (Darol Anger's Republic of Strings) on cello and Brittany Haas (Darol Anger, Yonder Mountain String Band) on fiddle, while the expressive, feathery voice of Aoife O'Donovan floats above and Corey DiMario's double-bass supports it all from below.

Crooked Still has always dug deep into classics like "Darling Corey" and "Shady Grove" to reveal the brooding energy at the heart of the music, while surprising listeners at every turn with their interplay and shifting harmonies. The group's recent CD, Some Strange Country (Signature Sounds), expands their vision by setting radically re-imagined traditional ballads alongside original tunes and a couple of contemporary covers (notably, the Rolling Stones' "You Got The Silver").

Crooked Still is planning to take a year off from touring in 2012, so make sure you don't miss them tonight!
