The CoverlettesOf all the great girl groups from the 1960s – the Shirelles and the Crystals, the Ronettes and the Shangri-Las – the greatest that never existed was the Coverlettes. You may not have heard of them – Ella, Bella, and Stella Duvet, three bad-girl sisters from the wrong side of Vermont. Complete with bee hive hairdos, shiny dresses, and spiked heels, the Coverlettes play their parts to perfection, and they sing like the real deal – snappy versions of their favorite Christmas songs mixed with girl group hits like “He’s a Rebel” and “Leader of the Pack.”

Carol Bozzio Littleton is Ella Duvet. You can also catch her in the 12-piece rock and soul review band, Big Bang Beat. Katie Guthorn is Bella Duvet. She sang in the Zasu Pitts Memorial Orchestra, which later spun off into Big Bang Beat, for 25 years. Darby Gould is Stella Duvet. She’s been performing for over 30 years, including as lead singer of Jefferson Starship the Next Generation. Their band is full of characters too. Randy Craig is Rusty McTurk, the group’s musical director and piano player. Randy was a founding member of The Pickle Family Circus. Alex Baum is bass player Rod Plunkett aka Skip Town. A multinstrumentalist & producer, Alex played for the Johnny Nocturne Band, is a charter member of Dan Hicks & the Acoustic Warriors, and has recorded/played with a long list of artists. Vince Littleton is drummer Ray Wray. Vince toured and recorded with Merl Saunders & the Rainforest Band, the Mermen, and many more.

The Coverlettes are bold and brassy, saucy and sassy. They have a history, albeit fictional, full of heartbreak and joy, tribulation and triumph. You can hear them on their album, The Coverlettes Cover Christmas, but there’s nothing like experiencing them live.
