Charles Hamilton, celebrated for his 28-year leadership of the award-winning Berkeley High School Jazz Ensemble, tonight heats up our stage with hard-driving, straight ahead jazz featuring compositions from his recent album Mr. Hamudah.

Producer, composer, arranger and musician (trumpet & trombone), San Francisco-born Charles has performed all over the world, including goodwill tours with the San Francisco Bay Jazz Band at the U.S. State Department's invitation. His carefully crafted music transforms seemingly simple ideas into complex polyrhythms ranging from the percussive diversity of Calypso and African rhythms to waltzes.

Tonight's lineup features Charles Hamilton on trombone, Miles Perkins (founder of Mingus Amungus) on bass, Joshi Marshall (Mingus Amungus) on alto sax, and drummer Josh Jones (of Peter Apfelbaum's original Hieroglyphics Ensemble). They are joined by Moshe Milon, Sr. on percussion, trumpet star Mark Wright, perennial favorite Hitomi Oba on tenor sax, and Glen Pearson, head of the music studies at the College of Alameda on keyboards.
