Carrie Rodriguez enlivens the Freight tonight, bringing her sultry vocals and sparkling fiddling to a tasty mix of original songs and cuts from her new cover CD, Love & Circumstance (April 2010).

Carrie, daughter of Texas singer-songwriter David Rodriguez, studied classical violin at Oberlin and Berklee on the way to developing her own style that combines traditional fiddling with jazz, country, and folk influences. Says Andrew Gilbert in the Boston Globe, "Hailed by Lucinda Williams, recruited by Alejandro Escovedo, and nurtured by Lyle Lovett, singer-songwriter Carrie Rodriguez has rapidly emerged as one of the most compelling new voices on the roots-rock scene."

Returning to her roots and inspirations, on Love and Circumstance Carrie adds her own fresh, vibrant energy to songs written by her father and tunes penned by the likes of Richard Thompson, Townes Van Zandt, and Lucinda Williams. Last seen at the Freight performing in a duo with Chip Taylor, tonight she is joined by Hans Holzen on guitar and Kyle Kegerreis on bass.

The Chapin Sisters (daughters of children's music notable Tom, nieces of 70's legend Harry) open the show with their sad, soft, gorgeous folk packed with frank lyrics, carefully plucked guitars and stunning harmonies.
