Lisa Zeiler & Jennie Chabon

Lisa Zeiler, co-founder of the beloved feminist folk trio Rebecca Riots, and Jennie Chabon, cantor for Congregation B’nai Tikvah in Walnut Creek, have been making music together for more than a decade, collaborating on three albums and countless live performances, and tonight they come to the Freight to share music that promises to open your heart and lift your spirits. Lisa’s masterful guitar work and Jennie’s stunning vocals create a transcendent sound that gets your body moving and leaves you breathless with delight.

Jennie grew up in Berkeley, sang in the San Francisco Girls Chorus, studied anthropology at Columbia University, and earned a Masters of Sacred Music and Investiture at the Jewish Theological Seminary. Lisa recorded four albums with Rebecca Riots, played sold-out shows around the country, and became a Freight favorite. Jennie and Lisa both have great musical chops, but the strength of their collaboration comes from their chemistry – they know each other’s musical tastes and they take great pleasure in making new musical discoveries together. Joining them tonight will be Kevin Weber on drums, Kaila Flexer on violin, Julie Batz and Shelly Ball on vocals, Phil Gorman on piano, Mark Bemesderfer on vocals, and Harry Wittenberg on bass. If you like your music beautiful, meaningful, and spiritually uplifting, this show should do the trick!
