Come help us celebrate the release of Long Gone: The Life and Times of Bruce "Utah" Phillips, a tribute to the late folk music legend also known as "The Golden Voice of the Great Southwest." An eclectic group of Utah's musical friends, the album artists are represented tonight by Bums on the Plush, featuring Utah's son Duncan Phillips, musicians Gigi Love, Doug Wintch, and Paul Rasmussen, plus special guests, local stars Faith Petric and Larry Hanks & Deborah Robin.

A Salt Lake City native, Duncan sings and plays tonight on his father Bruce's old road-worn Guild guitar. Describing himself as "a guy who makes up songs and plays guitar and harmonica," Doug has rambled across much of the US while writing wry and memorable songs that meld blues, pop, and rock. Gigi has an infectious sound, combining smoky vocals and revealing songwriting loaded with energy and vulnerable passion, juggling blues and rock with country and folk. The amazing Faith, grande dame of the West Coast folk scene, always inspires with great music, bracing wit, and boundless energy. Songsters Larry Hanks and Deborah Robins present earthy vocals, spare guitar, and Larry's virtuosic Jew's harp playing, plus an easy, unpretentious stage manner.

Long a mainstay of American traditional culture and music, and one of the Freight's most beloved performers, Utah Phillips was many things in his life—soldier, hobo, activist, pacifist, union organizer, and a songwriter dedicated to sharing stories from the lesser-known corners of North America. Utah passed on in May 2008, but his songs and hilarious, often thought-provoking stories, live on in the hearts (and on the lips) of anyone who has heard them.
