Brittany Haas & Lauren RiouxBrittany Haas of Crooked Still and Lauren Rioux from Darol Anger’s Republic of Strings join forces to make music steeped in intricate harmonies and filled with deep emotion.  Together, these two consummate young fiddlers bring their knowledge of Appalachian music and their experience at the forefront of the contemporary string band scene to weave a tapestry of heartfelt vocals and progressive grooves.

Brittany was a Bay Area teenager when she began touring at the age of 14, and a Princeton student in the Department of Evolutionary Biology when she joined the seminal chamber-grass band Crooked Still.  She played on Steve Martin’s Grammy-winning CD, The Crow, and performed in his band on Saturday Night Live.  Lauren, besides performing with Republic of Strings and Crow Molly, maintains a very active private studio in her home state of Maine.  The Portland Phoenix praised the “quiet strength” of her debut album, All the Brighter, and likened it to “a party with close friends.”  According to fiddle master Darol Anger, “The Haas-Rioux two-woman orchestra is at once the most charming and flat-out driving fiddle duet anywhere around. They'll entrance, and then you'll have to dance.”
