The Blackberry Bushes StringbandHailing from the rain-drenched forests of Olympia, Washington, the Blackberry Bushes Stringband plays a delicate, bold brand of northwest acoustic americana that, like its thorny namesake, is deeply rooted and continuously growing. The group’s sound takes a solid bluegrass foundation, draws from American folk music, and adds influences from all over the map, from Appalachian old-time to indie rock and alt-country. Virtuosic musicianship, award-winning songwriting, compelling arrangements, quick wit, flying tempos, sweet harmonies, and heavy heel boot dancing are all elements of a live show that is joyous and vibrant, moving audiences in their hearts and out of their seats at the same time. Add to this the amazing banjo stylings of Bill Evans and you’ve certainly got a night to remember!

Founded by Jes Raymond (guitar) and Kendl Bill EvansWinter (banjo), the stringband also features fiddler Jakob Breitbach, songwriter and upright bassist Joe Capoccia, and Jack Dwyer on mandolin—they all sing. The Blackberry Bushes’ most recent CD is Lo-Fi @ High Tide.

Banjo arteeste Bill, who performs with the stringband tonight, has graced our stage many times as a solo performer, and with everyone from David Grisman, Hazel Dickens, Bluegrass Intentions, and others. His current projects include The NashVillians and The Flatt and Scruggs Tribute Band.
