If Adam Theis were compressed into a pill we all could swallow, we'd suddenly see our ability to work expand in four dimensions, allowing us to accomplish more than we ever dreamed possible. -San Francisco Chronicle
Tonight the Jazz Mafia, an intricately woven collective of jazz virtuosos, arrangers, and composers that include many of the San Francisco Bay Area's most innovative and prolific musicians, will be performing their annual Miles Davis Birth of the Cool tribute.
Adam leads 10 bands all performing under the Jazz Mafia umbrella, including the Shotgun Wedding Quintet, Realistic Orchestra, Spaceheater, and Supertaster (which earned the ultimate bragging rights when Stevie Wonder sat in with the band last year.) In 2010, the Jazz Mafia had a breakthrough year performing their critically acclaimed symphony "Brass, Bows & Beats" in front of tens of thousands at major festivals including the Montreal and Newport Jazz Festivals.
Tonight's performance at the Freight, will feature Adam Theis (principle composer/band leader of Jazz Mafia), woodwind multi-trombonist Sheldon Brown, trombonist Mike Rinta, and others.
