Bill Monroe, widely acclaimed as the Father of Bluegrass Music, was born in Rosine, KY, on September 13, 1911. His powerful mix of rural blues, swing, old-time mountain songs and tunes, and on-fire mandolin-playing grabbed the ears of people around the World. Some of the people who have been most affected by his musical vision here in the Bay Area will join together to celebrate the man and his music. We'll share stories, sing songs from Monroe's varied repertoire, and celebrate the difference that his music has made on our lives. This tradition began seven years ago, as a one-time event, and has been so much fun that Laurie Lewis have continued to curate the show every year since.

Please join guitarist/fiddler/singer Laurie Lewis, for an incredible dip into the pool of local bluegrass talent with mandolinist/singer Tom Rozum, mandolinist/singer/leader of the bluegrass band High Country Butch Waller, Kentucky fiddler extraordinaire Brandon Godman, Banjoist Patrick Sauber (the Right Hands), bassist Sam Grisman (The Deadly Gentlemen, David Grisman’s bluegrass Experience), and special guests from the Northwest Joe Seamons and Ben Hunter.

Ben Hunter & Joe Seamons are nationally touring, critically acclaimed roots musicians and award-winning acoustic blues songsters. Rooted in their home of Seattle, Washington, they bring their unique integration of performance, folklore, and education with them to schools and communities nationwide.

Fiddler and singer Amy Scher hails from Philadelphia via Flagstaff, AZ. She can be heard in many musical groups around the Bay Area, where she has developed a big following for her heartfelt vocals.

Ray Edlund, of KPFA’s long-running popular bluegrass show “Pig in a Pen,” will act as master of ceremonies.
