Come Celebrate the nation’s longest running camp for LGBTQ families and friends, as we honor its co-founder and long-time director, Jill Rose. Over its twenty-seven-year history, Camp It Up! has become “home” to more than 3,000 campers and 500 families. Campers are a diverse mix: lesbian, gay, transgender, single-parent, adoptive, multi-racial and heterosexual families, as well as adults without children. Camp is a safe place where all campers learn that their differences make them strong. Camp It Up is a magical place, a powerful expression of how life can and should be for everyone.  

Your host for the evening, Karen Ripley came on to the gay comedy scene in 1977 in San Francisco. From the cover of the East Bay Express with Whoopi Goldberg to Ms. Magazines top 100 Lesbian Comic 2009. 2005 SF Fringe Best Musical Comedy with Annie Larson in the original play “Show Me where it Hurts,” and 2006 Diva Fest. with “waiting for FEMA.” Ripley has traveled all over the USA and the Caribbean. Featured in Logo's Wisecracks episode 2. Her most recent one woman show “Oh No Theres Men On The Land” won best of 5 in SF Bay area by Theater Eddy 2014.

Lisa Zeiler, co-founder of the beloved feminist folk trio Rebecca Riots, and Jennie Chabon, cantor for Congregation B’nai Tikvah in Walnut Creek, have been making music together for more than a decade, collaborating on three albums and countless live performances, and tonight they come to the Freight to share music that promises to open your heart and lift your spirits. Lisa’s masterful guitar work and Jennie’s stunning vocals create a transcendent sound that gets your body moving and leaves you breathless with delight.

Melanie DeMore has traveled the world, was a founding member of the Grammy nominated vocal ensemble Linda Tillery and the Cultural Heritage Choir, and is constantly amazed by her life. But nothing is closer to her heart than bringing people together wherever she is to experience the healing power of music. Whether she’s performing solo, leading stick pounding workshops , doing residencies with choirs all over the country or teaching Sound Awareness to sixth graders, baby boomers, or senior citizens, one thing is certain: her mission is to make sure you unlock the key to experiencing yourself in all your Glory and return home with the very same excitement and passion for living that she herself has. When she comes your way, her energy will charge the very air you breathe like a meteor shower, so get ready to rise up!
