Aoife O'DonovanHailed as “a vocalist of unerring instinct” by the New York Times, “transcendent” by the Boston Globe, and “the newest darling of the Americana set” by USA Today, Aoife O’Donovan returns to the Freight on her way to a sold-out date at the Telluride Bluegrass Festival. After ten years and six scintillating albums with the cutting-edge string band Crooked Still, she released her first solo album, Fossils, a collection of sparkling originals that weaves together strands of folk, bluegrass, and country rock. AllMusic.com calls the album “strong, clever, honest, and provocative.”

Aoife (pronounced EEE-fah) grew up in a musical family in Newton, Massachusetts – her father hosted “A Celtic Sojourn” on WBGH in Boston – graduated from the New England Conservatory, and hit the road as lead singer and principal songwriter for Crooked Still. More recently, she has performed on Mountain Stage and A Prairie Home Companion, as well as at the Grand Ole Opry, toured with the Punch Brothers and the Milk Carton Kids, and participated as featured vocalist in the Grammy-winning Goat Rodeo Sessions with Yo-Yo Ma, Chris Thile, Edgar Meyer, and Stuart Duncan. “I come from a traditional music school background,” she said in an interview with the New York Times, “and I want every note I sing to be full of purpose.” If the purpose is to touch the heart of people who love good music, she’s doing a fantastic job!

Berklee College of Music graduate Liz Longley has taken home top prizes at some of the most prestigious songwriting competitions in the country, including the BMI John Lennon Songwriting Scholarship Competition, the International Acoustic Music Awards, and the Rocky Mountain Folk Fest Songwriting Competition. Her music has been featured on SiriusXM radio, as well as on ABC and Lifetime television shows. Her voice will make you stop in your tracks and just listen. Listen and enjoy. She’s a major talent on her way up the charts, and her appearance at the Freight should be a real treat!
