Alba’s Edge weaves Scottish fiddle into jazz, funk, and salsa to make multi-cultural music that sizzles and swings. With Neil Pearlman on piano, Lilly Pearlman on fiddle, Jacob Cole on drums, and Doug Berns on bass, the band brings an East Coast edge to its world music bent. The U.S. State Department recently sponsored them on a tour of Mexico, and now they’re coming to the Freight with a fresh sound that BBC Radio Scotland has called “a wonderful concoction”!
A Thousand Years at Sea brings together two singer-songwriter-fiddler-guitar-players, Colin Cotter and Ethan Lewis, who take Celtic music and Americana, and stir them up with rock and roll energy to create an electrifying mix. The band has released three albums since 2009, Silver Shores Await, We Will Fall Apart, and The Stillness Here, and they have a new four-song EP, Tree Pool. The Sacramento News Review calls their music “something sweet and subtle.” Neil Pearlman of Alba’s Edge has been known to sit in, so we may see some musician-swapping between the two bands!
