Al StewartIf you fell in love with songs like “Year of the Cat,” “Time Passages,” and “On the Border,” you already know Al Stewart and his uncanny ability to weave history, geography, and metaphysics into songs that tell unforgettable stories in unfamiliar ways. “If it’s already been written, why write it again?” he said in a recent interview. “If it’s already been said, why say it again?” He strives to tell stories that no one else has told – and he does so in catchy songs with complex rhythms and intricate lyrics that keep unwinding in your mind even after many listenings. No subject matter is off limits – except maybe “Baby, hold on!” He’s written songs about the French Revolution, the League of Nations, Lord Grenville, and Warren G. Harding. (What rhymes with Teapot Dome?)

Al was born in Glasgow, Scotland in 1945 and was part of the London folk scene in the 1960s, sharing a flat with Paul Simon and playing with Richard Thompson, Burt Jensch, and John Renbourn. Since then, he’s recorded more than 20 albums, including two that went platinum in the late 1970s. Tonight he’ll be joined by bassist Mike Lindauer and stellar guitarist Dave Nachmanoff. For folk music that nourishes the head and the heart, with exquisite lyrics and incandescent melodies, Al Stewart delivers the goods!
