When Adam Traum sings, you can almost hear the smile on his face. His voice is light and clear, and his songs are self-deprecating and often funny. The Savannah Morning News says that Adam “fluently combines blues, folk, rockabilly, and country into a sound that captures the depth and truth of America’s musical roots.” He plays guitar, mandolin, bass, and lap steel, and has a knack for churning out catchy riffs and hard-driving rhythms.

Adam grew up in a musical family in Woodstock, New York. His father, Happy Traum, was a mainstay in the Greenwich Village folk scene, recording with Phil Ochs, Pete Seeger, and Bob Dylan, and releasing the first version of Dylan’s “Blowin’ in the Wind.” Adam, too, got to jam with Dylan, and his first electric guitar was a loaner from John Sebastian of the Lovin’ Spoonful. He has a new album, Just Like Home, which features a more stripped-down, intimate sound than his first album, Meant to Be. Now based in Sonoma, Adam teaches guitar at the Marin Community Music School and around the Bay Area, and has recorded four instructional videos for Homespun Tapes, including Acoustic Blues Guitar with a Flatpick.

Joining him tonight will be Joe Kyle, Jr. on bass and David Thom on mandolin, with his father Happy sitting in, and there may even be a few surprise guests taking the stage to help serve up Adam’s own brand of down-to-earth American roots music that feels just like home.
